  1. SERVICE
    1. Adopt-A-Highway
    2. As the two year contract to beautify one of Greensburg’s roadways expires, the Club looks forward to renewing their contract and continuing this service for another two years. The Club cleared the 2.5 mile highway near Twin Lakes twice this semester, beginning with the Saturday of Service in early September.

II. CLUB SPONSORED ACTIVITIES
    1. Club Fair
    2. The Chemistry Club sponsored a table at the annual club fair, hosted by Seton Hill Government Association, (SHGA). The fair served to inform new students, about the various clubs and activities on campus. To entice new members to join, club members performed Chemistry in a Ziploc Bag and Magic Paper Towel.

    3. Mole Day
    4. In celebration of Mole Day, October 23, the club sold cupcakes that spelled out Avagadro’s number, 6.02 X 1023. The club also sponsored a raffle in which people guessed the number of moles of M&M’s contained in a jar. The winner, club vice president, Kami Carrera, won over 1000 M&M’s.

    3. ACS National Chemistry Week Celebration

On November 13, members of the club joined the Pittsburgh Section of ACS to celebrate National Chemistry Week at the Carnegie Science Center. The Club joined with many other local schools and organizations such as Bayer Corporation, PPG, SACP, in educating the public about chemistry. During this very successful event, the club presented Chemistry in a Ziploc Bag and Magic Paper Towel to over 2000 visitors.

    IV. SEMINARS

      1. "Chemistry on the Road" by Jessica Conlon
      2. In culmination of her honors project, Jessica presented her chemistry recruitment program, which targets high school students, to get them interested in chemistry.

      3. "And You Thought Carbon Was Boring!" by Kimberly Barkley-Thompson (’98)

Kimberly returned to Seton Hill to kick off National Chemistry Week by giving a presentation on her work as a chemist at Calgon Carbon.

    V. New Endeavors

The Eden Hall Foundation supports the SHC QUEST Program (Quality stUdents Explore Science and Technology) for which 6 club members serve as academic mentors to 7th and 8th grade female participants. The mentors serve students from Greensburg-Salem Middle School and St. James in Wilkinsburg. On December 6, the academic mentors visited St. James to teach the 7th and 8thgrade science classes. Some of the activities included: a teaching day at St. James which involved earthworm dissection and tie-dying T-shirts by chromatography, as well as helping the students prepare their Junior Academy of Science Projects.
