  1. SERVICE
    1. "Take the Day On!"
    2. The Chapter participated in the College's "Take the Day On" in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Five chapter members and their advisor came back early from Christmas break to participate in this event. They helped with mailings for the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days.

    3. Brownie Troop Visit
    4. A local Brownie troop of fifteen girls and their mothers came to campus for an evening of "chemistry fun." They did chemistry experiments such as Magic Paper Towel, Paper Chromatography and Silly Putty. Some of the girls were able to earn their Science Wonder badge as a result of the evening's activities. This event was coordinated by Christin Hanigan.

Freshman Tracey Harshberger demonstrates how to make "fireworks."

The Brownie Troop enjoys refreshments after their fun evening of activities.

    5. St. James Visits
    6. Five club members and our faculty advisor served as judges for the St. James middle school science fair, Wilkinsburg. Every 6th-8th grade student entered a project in the fair. The fair was held in the school gymnasium on Feb. 17.

Thanks to a grant from the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP), the club was able to host sixty-five 6th-8th graders from St. James on April 6. The day included laboratory activities, lunch in Lowe Dining Hall and a campus tour. The students participated in such activities as T-shirt chromatography, silly putty, making nylon and others.

Students learn how to synthesize nylon!

    7. Big Brothers and Big Sisters Bowl-A-Thon
    8. On April 9, a team of bowlers participated in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Bowl-A-Thon. The proceeds raised from this event went to the Westmoreland County Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization.

    9. Women in Science Day
    10. Eleven chapter members served as guides and presenters for the annual Women in Science Day. Female junior high school students from 62 local high schools were honored for their performance in math, chemistry and/or biology.

Senior Marisa Evansek teaches area high school juniors about FT-IR and HATR Spectroscopy.

    11. Adopt-a-Highway
    12. The Chapter members continued to beautify their 2.5 mile stretch of road near Twin Lakes Park in Greensburg with an April clean-up!

      II. Scientific Meetings:
