BEN RAFOTH

This year, we are honored to have as our keynote speaker Dr. Ben Rafoth. For the past 16 years, Ben Rafoth has directed the Writing Center and taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pennsylvania, where he is a Professor of English.

He has published articles in various composition journals and is the editor of A Tutor's Guide: Helping Writers One to One, published by Heinemann Boynton/Cook. Ben is also the co-editor, with Shanti Bruce, of Tutoring ESL Writers, which will be released this summer by Heinemann. He is a member of the editorial board of The Writing Center Journal.

In 2002, Ben received the Ron Maxwell Award from the National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing for distinguished leadership in promoting the collaborative learning practices of peer tutors. Last October, he coordinated the first-ever, joint meeting of the International Writing Centers Association and the National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing. The conference was held in Hershey, Pennsylvania and had a record attendance of 951. Ben currently serves on the executive board of the IWCA as the organization's treasurer.
